James Hutton 300: Landscape, Rocks, Time

Celebrating the 300th anniversary of the birth of James Hutton (1726 - 1797).
This exhibition will explore James Hutton’s influence on the processes leading to the formation of rocks and on the concept of geological time in a series of interpretation panels, which tell of Hutton's life in Edinburgh during the period of the Scottish Enlightenment as well as the development of his Theory of the Earth.

    The exhibition considers the intertwining relationships of Berwick Barracks, the KOSB Regiment, and the town of Berwick. It explores themes around unseen and hidden aspects of the building, marks left by the people who have passed through the space, and the layers of memory built up over time.
